The John. W Heisman Club is pleased to announce the second annual One, More, Day 5k Road Race which will be held on Sunday, May 4 beginning at 9 a.m.
Registration forms can be picked up Philips Gym, or downloaded off of Oberlin’s athletic website. It will be possible to register on May 4 as well, with the option beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday. Registration and the race itself will commence at Philips Gym, 200 Woodland Street, in Oberlin. There is also a 400-meter run/walk for kids.
The proceeds of this will benefit Oberlin Community Services, an organization dedicated to providing local families with much-needed food, clothing and other types of aid. In additional to the Heisman Club, sponsors include The Feve and Black River Café, both of Oberlin.
Top overall male and female finishers will receive a cash award of $200. Additional awards will be given in each age group.
The Heisman Club is hoping to encourage camaraderie by giving awards to teams of three, including family teams. Also, a special award will be bestowed upon the first finisher who will perform in a concert later that day.
The 5k course will run through town and finish on the new Robert Kahn Track. Expected participants include Oberlin College President Marvin Krislov.
The event should be fun and festive for everyone. Last years’ race attracted 90 participants and benefited the Danielle Brender Fund Inc. This fund was established with the goal of raising money for the purchase of Automatic External Defibrillators and to provide training for application. The race was successful in sponsoring a fun community event and raised over $1,500.
