Lena Dunham ’08 created and stars in the HBO series, GIRLS. She also serves as executive producer, writer, and director. Dunham won several honors in 2013, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, and received a nomination in that category this year. She recently made history by becoming the first female director to win a Director's Guild of America Award for Television Comedy Series. Additionally, she received seven Emmy nominations, and won a Writers Guild of America Award for Best New Series.
In 2010, she won an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay for her feature TINY FURNITURE, which she also starred in and directed. Dunham signed a deal with Random House Publishing for a collection of essays to be titled Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned.
