Though perhaps best known for writing and starring in the play and the film Talk Radio, Eric Bogosian ’76 has had a wide-ranging career as an author, actor, and playwright. For Talk Radio, he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and received the Berlin Film Festival Silver Bear Award; in 2007, the Broadway revival starring Liev Schreiber was nominated for two Tony Awards. For his six solo off-Broadway shows, Bogosian received three Obie Awards and a Drama Desk Award. Bogosian has also written a number of other full-length plays including subUrbia, which will be performed on campus in the days surrounding his appearance. His third novel will be published in early 2009 by Simon & Schuster. As an actor, Bogosian has appeared in many films and television programs and currently stars in Law & Order: Criminal Intent as Capt. Danny Ross. An alumnus of Oberlin’s theater program, Bogosian brings his infectious energy and broad artistic experience back to campus in this talk.

Mr. Bogosian’s work has always trod the line betwen incisive character comedy and something deeper and scarier. At the heart of his vision of humanity is the idea that so-called civilized behavior is just a middle-class luxury.”
