Oberlin’s ties to the internationally renowned Cleveland Orchestra run deep: from the great contributions of philanthropist John Long Severance (an Oberlin graduate who helped give birth to the orchestra and funded its home venue) to the tradition of orchestra members who teach at Oberlin and conservatory graduates who go on to careers with the orchestra. The college has hosted seasonal performances by the Cleveland Orchestra since 1919—more than 200 performances in all.

Marin Alsop, music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, will lead the orchestra in concert with French classical pianist David Fray, whose flair for eccentric performances is matched only by his outstanding musicianship.
