A quarter century after she began her international performing career, Midori’s incredible musical life continues to evolve. Upon listening to the eight-year-old Midori play Bach’s masterpiece Chaconne for the first time, prominent violin teacher Dorothy DeLay ’37, hon. ’81 knew she had discovered something special. By the time Midori reached her teens, she had secured concert engagements throughout the world. Now in her thirties, Midori continues to expand her musical horizons, becoming increasingly involved in supporting new music and arts education while keeping an active performance schedule. An incomparable player and a dedicated member of the musical community, Midori is an inspiring presence, on stage and off.
Schumann: Sonata for Piano and Violin in A Minor, Op. 105
Beethoven: Sonata for Piano and Violin in G Major, Op. 96
Cage: Six Melodies
Enescu: Sonata for Piano and Violin, Op. 25
“Still in control of the dazzling technique that made her a presence on concert stages in her early teens, the 34-year-old artist has gained an interpretive depth to match that virtuosity … Midori floated the quietest and purest of phrases to the upper reaches of the Concert Hall. The finale was a blaze of energy, laced with compact curlicue figures and zesty rhythms.”
