ACLS/SSRC/NEH International and Area Studies Fellowships – Deadline: September 28, 2005

Approximately 10 international and area studies fellows will be named from the general ACLS fellowship competition.  Candidates apply to the regular ACLS fellowship program – determination is made by ACLS.  Scholars pursuing research and writing on the societies and cultures of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union are eligible.

¯     National Endowment for the Humanities – Summer Stipends

Supports individuals pursuing advanced research that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the public's understanding of the humanities for two consecutive summer months of study and research. Individuals who have held a major fellowship or research grant or its equivalent within the last three academic years prior to the deadline are ineligible. A "major fellowship or research grant" is a postdoctoral research award that provides a stipend of at least $10,000. Sabbaticals and grants from an individual's own institution and stipends and grants from other sources supporting study and research during the summer are not considered major fellowships.  Nomination by institution is required – faculty should submit draft proposals following the summer stipend guidelines to the Office of Sponsored Programs no later than 5:00pm Monday, September 19, 2005.

3 to 24 month fellowships awarded to encourage international multidisciplinary research in the social sciences or humanities relevant to any one or any combination of the three themes: Global Issues, Problems Common to Industrial and Industrializing Societies, or Issues that Pertain to US-Japan Relations.

Eurasia Program Fellowships – Deadline: November 15, 2005

Fellowship program for research on the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and the New States of Eurasia. Research related to the non-Russian states, regions, and peoples is particularly encouraged.  Regions and countries currently supported by the program include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Funding is not presently available for research on the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania).

¯     White House Historical Association – Research Fellowship Grants

1 to 6 month fellowships are available for scholars to defray the costs of travel. Grants are to encourage new projects that make use of records pertinent to the president, first family, and subordinates while the president lives in the White House.  The focus of the research should be the White House, including life and work there, as well as the physical structure.
