53. Allencroft (1913-    )

Allencroft

Allencroft, n.d.

134 South Professor Street

Allencroft was for many years the residence of Dr. Dudley Allen, and the home of Dr. Dudley P. Allen of the class of 1875. In 1899 this property came into the possession of the College by gift of Dr. Dudley P. Allen and Mrs. Emily Allen Serverance. The house was enlarged in 1902 and it was operated privately as a boarding house until 1913. During the year 1913-14 it served as a dormitory for Academy boys. Beginning in September, 1914, it furnished board and room accommodations for twenty women in the Conservatory department. Since 1928 it has been used as a residence hall only, the young women taking their meals elsewhere. Allencroft was built during the early sixties by Mr. Ralph Plumb. [Allencroft now serves as the Russian house and accommodates seventeen co-ed students.]
