The Carolyn Frances Corwin Papers document her research for a
seminar paper for Professor Geoffrey Blodgett (d. 2001) entitled “Oberlin
College Students and the Race Issue in the 1950s.” The collection
is divided into two series: I. Article and Research Paper, and
II. Questionnaires and Research Materials.
Series Descriptions
Series 1. Article and Research Paper, 1971-1972 (1 folder)
Consists of a copy of Carolyn Corwin’s research paper and
her article in the Oberlin Alumni Magazine (September/October 1972)
concerning the race issue in the 1950s at Oberlin College. The
research paper is available for review but cannot be photocopied.
Series 2. Questionnaire and Research Materials, 1955, 1970-1971
(Restricted, 5 folders)
Consists of questionnaires completed by Oberlin students and
graduates (and associated correspondence). The questions concern
race relations
and the Oberlin campus and community. Also included are copies
of two papers (1955) written by Bob Blackburn concerning interracial
dating and race relations in San Antonio. Access to this series
is restricted.
Provenance
The Carolyn Corwin papers were donated by Corwin to the Oberlin
College Archives in two installments in 1971 and 1972. They were
assigned accession number 155.
