RG 30/346 - Sparkle Newsletter (1952-1999)
Scope and Content

The Sparkle papers contain newsletters, a historical file, correspondence, miscellaneous materials, and photographs. The bulk of the material consists of the newsletters. Dating between 1954 and 1999, these newsletters are composed of letters written by the subscribers as well as selected newspaper clippings and comments.

Series Descriptions

Series I. Newsletters, 1954-1999 (0.6 linear feet)

Consists of the bi-monthly Sparkle newsletter written by and distributed to the members of the Sparkle round robin group.

Series II. Historical, 1952, 1957, 1966, n.d. (0.01 linear feet)

This series contains early mailing lists, a 1952 letter recruiting members for the original group, and a brief biography of Elizabeth Blakesley (editor of Sparkle).

Series III. Correspondence 1946, 1952-1972, 1987-1989, 2002, n.d. (0.1 linear feet)

Contains letters to and from Sparkle subscribers.

Series IV. Miscellaneous, 1955, 1957, 1960, 1969, 1970, 1990-1991, 2002, n.d. (0.08 linear feet)

Consists of a farewell gift to Elizabeth Blakesley when she left Oberlin in 1957, an updated list of members (compiled in 2002), miscellaneous sources used for Sparkle, and miscellaneous writings and “creations” by individuals in the group.

Series V. Photographs, 1975, 1995, n.d. (0.01 linear feet)

Contains two photographs of Gladys Elizabeth Blakesley and Charlotte Wheaton Wells, as well as a photo album compilation of the group.

Provenance

The records of the Sparkle Newsletter Round Robin Group were donated by Mrs. Theodore Dixon in 2002.
