George Athearn Adams (1821-1903) |
| Biography |
| Emily M. Higgins Adams (d. 1862) married George Athearn Adams (1821-1903), Oberlin College Class of 1847, in 1852. Their ten years of marriage produced six children. Although we know that her spouse, a graduate of Andover Seminary, ordained to the Presbyterian ministry at Bowling Green, Ohio, in 1852 and that he held abolitionist leanings, we know very little of Emily M. Higgins. She and George Athearn Adams had a four-year courtship, which was more romantic than business-like. She grew up in Rochester, New York. Emily also had communications with Lucy Mahan, wife of Asa Mahan, president of Oberlin College. |
