RG 30/187 - Sydney Nettleton Fisher (1906-1987)
Scope and Content

The papers of Sydney Nettleton Fisher document the Fisher family and his days as a student at Oberlin College.   The collection is rich in documentation about the Fisher family, including an autobiography of Sydney N. Fisher and biographies of Robert Dean Fisher and Fisher's parents, Addison Washburn Fisher and Pearl Nettleton Fisher.  The correspondence series contains letters between Sydney Fisher and family, including accounts of his teaching appointment at Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey from 1929 to 1931.  Finally, the Scrapbook/Memorabilia series includes items that document Sydney N. Fisher's time as an undergraduate at Oberlin College, especially social and athletic events.

Series Descriptions

Series I.  Biographical,  1925, 1928, 1986, n.d. (2f)

The biographical material for Sydney N. Fisher includes his autobiography, and a folder related to his student days at Oberlin (promise for admission, schedule card, classification card and receipts for his diploma and a gift for the stadium).

Series II.  Correspondence, 1928-1937, n.d.  (12f)

This series consists of letters to Sydney N. Fisher from friends, written between 1929-1930.  Also contained in this series are letters written by Sydney N. Fisher to his parents, Addison and Pearl Fisher, between 1928-1937.  The letters are arranged chronologically.

Series III.  Scrapbook (loose items), 1925-28, n.d.  (9f)

This series houses dance programs from 1925-28, miscellaneous programs of events, invitations, tickets and passes, Mock Convention materials, and photographs.  These materials were contained in a scrapbook.

Series IV. Writings of S.N. Fisher, 1980, 1983  (2f)

This series contains two privately published accounts: a history of the life and times of his parents, Addison Washburn Fishel (1873-1947) and Pearl Nettleton Fisher (1871-1961), Worthington, Ohio, 1983; and, a history of Robert Dean Fisher (1903-1978), a life and times of his older brother, Worthington, Ohio 1980. They appear in spiral-bound format (2 copies of each).

Provenance

The Sydney Nettleton Fisher Papers were donated to the Archives by Sydney Nettleton Fisher in four accessions, 1986/19, 1987/19, 1987/20, and 1987/37.
