Deed of sale, 1832

Transfer of property in Brownhelm, Ohio from Grandison and Nancy Fairchild (parents of President James H. Fairchild) to William H. Harris.

Field Survey of Oberlin, 1834

Survey of Oberlin, 1834. A copy, attested to as accurate by Brewster Pelton, of the "Field Book of the Survey of Oberlin" made by Hiram Davis in 1834 "for said Colony under the direction of their Committee for Such," with an additional entry of October 8, 1866, made by county supervisor L.F. Ward. These 16 pages are electrostatic copies of the pages (unnumbered) in the back of one of the volumes of the Oberlin Church Records, 1834-41, that is filed 31/4/1, Box 17. The title page of the volume reads: "Constitution of the Oberlin Society Incorporated by an Act of the Legislature of the State of Ohio. Together with all the Societies Record from March 10, A.D. 1834."

Street and Hughes deed of sale, 1836

Copy of the document by which Titus Street and Samuel and Philomena Hughes of New Haven gave title to lands in Russian Township to the Oberlin Collegiate Institute, April 16, 1836.

Petition by Oberlin Women, 1837

Copy of an 1837 petition to the U.S. House of Representatives, signed by Mrs. Levi Burnell and 190 Oberlin women, asking that the rule tabling anti-slavery memorials and petitions be rescinded. Includes a handwritten note regarding the tabling of the petition, 4 June 1838.

" The Oberlin Institute," 1839

Typescript copy and supporting materials relating to this document written by Theodore Weld to raise funds in England for the Oberlin Collegiate Institute. (Document itself is 24 1/2" x 39" filed oversize.)

Keep-Dawes Mission to England, 1839-40 (2 vols.)

(1) Copy of petition for assistance, letter of appointment of the delegation to England, and letters of introduction, 1839.

(2) Subscription book: statement as to the purpose of the mission with signatures of contributors and amounts given. See Chapter 29 of Robert Fletcher's History of Oberlin College for a discussion of the mission. Acc. 1981/8.

Colonization Society Certificate, 1842

Life membership certificate of the Rev. A.H. Bishop of Astoria, Long Island, in the Colonization Society of the City of New York, December 10, 1842. Acc. 1982/11.

Deed of a Sale of a Slave, 1842

Deed whereby a slave named Cyrus is sold for $850.00 in Austin, Republic of Texas, June 1, 1842.

Notes of an Anti-Slavery Meeting, 1843

Notes of an anti-slavery meeting held at Buffalo, New York, August 31, 1843. Participants included John Keep, Timothy Hudson, and Abby Kelly. Accompanying typed transcript. Acc. 1981/8.

Liberty Party Petition, 1848

Copy of a petition, July 24, 1848, signed by T.B. Hudson and J.H. Fairchild, to John P. Hale setting forth reasons why Hale should not withdraw his name as the nominee of the Liberty Party for the Office of President of the U.S.; also Evangelist, Extra [copy] of "Resolutions and Abstract of an Address Adopted By A Meeting of Liberty Party Men, At Oberlin, July 6th, 1848."

Deed of Sale, Finney to Beecher, 1848-49

Deed by which Charles Grandison Finney sold Alfred Beecher 56 acres of land along present Woodland and W. Lorain Streets, 1848-49; also a copy of a letter (1836) of transmittal by Charles A. Kellogg. Acc. 1980/33.

New England Protective Union, 1850-51

Pamphlet containing the constitution, by-laws, and lists of thirty subscribers of the Oberlin branch of the New England Protective Union. The union operated some type of cooperative store. Extremely fragile. Acc. 1988/33.

James Harris Fairchild Property Deed, 1852 Oversize Box 2

Deed granting Fairchild a 99-year lease to a plot of land owned by Oberlin College, 1852. [acc. 2001/94]

Mortgage Note, 1852

Mortgage note of Horace C. Starr, Elyria, held by Oberlin College until its cancellation in 1863. Includes documents acknowledging receipt of interest payments.

Depot Park Deed, 1866

Photocopy of the property deed for Depot Park in Oberlin. The parcel was sold by Olivia Safford to the Incorporated Village of Oberlin for $600 on May 23, 1866. Also included is a photocopy of the Lorain County Internet Map showing the parcel. See attached correspondence from Jeff Baumann, Oberlin Public Works Director, to Oberlin College Archivist Roland Baumann, 26 December 2002.

Deed for 291 Elm Street (C.P. Doolittle House), 1932

Deed transferring property of Professor John O. Lofberg to his widow Maude S. Lofberg, dated November 28, 1933. Tis property was later owned by Professor Robert S. Fletcher. Acc. 2002/061

Oberlin [Norman] Thomas for President Club, 1932

Letters regarding Thomas from Devere Allen, John Dewey, Henry Pratt Fairchild, John Haynes Holmes, Robert Morss Lovett, Benjamin C. Marsh, Reinhold Neibuhr, Morrie Ryskind, Abba Hillel Silver, and Oswald Garrison Villard. Acc. 282.
