 Lucy
Stone (d. 1893) graduated from Oberlin in 1847. She was a prominent
reformer, and a pioneer in the women's rights movement. When
she married Henry B. Blackwell in 1855, Lucy gained notoriety by
insisting on keeping her maiden name. For her, this was a symbol
of equality. |
