Ethnomusicologist Frances
Theresa Densmore studied at the Oberlin College Conservatory
of Music from 1884 to 1887.
She worked for 50 years
in association with the Smithsonian Institution's Bureau
of American Ethnology to document the music of Native
Americans.
She recorded Native American songs, collected musical
instruments, and wrote about the music of the Sioux,
Yuma, Pawnee, and
other tribes.
