Carl M. Hershiser, ’86,
returned to campus to deliver a lecture on September 20, 2007 entitled
“At the Tip of the Spear: The Intersection of Applied Anthropology,
Military Culture, and Counter-Insurgency.” A specialist on Turkey
and Central Asia, he received his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University
of Texas, Austin, and now serves as a civilian Central Asia analyst for
the U.S. Army. While on campus, he also met over lunch with Anthropology
majors to discuss his own career and opportunities in applied anthropology.
