New on View

Closed August 10, 2008
West Ambulatory Gallery

Ad Reinhardt's brilliant drawing from 1949 is a highlight of the AMAM's recent acquisitions on view in the Ambulatory Gallery. Luminous green watercolor washes and lively black ink lines pulse with rhythmic energy in this large-scale work. Donated by the late artist's grandson, the drawing joins an impressive 1948 Reinhardt painting already in the collection. Other works include a Judy Pfaff collage that blurs the distinction between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art; an evocative digital pigment print of smoke rings by Donald Sultan; two pastels - experiments in color and light - from 1969 and 1970 by Jeremy Moon, one of the groundbreaking British abstract painters of the 1960s whose career was cut short by a fatal motorcycle accident in 1973; and a selection of recent photographs by Lewis Hine and others.

Organized by Andria Derstine, AMAM Curator of Western Art
