Volunteer for Oberlin

Alumni Volunteer Positions
Volunteer for the Alumni Office

You can indicate your desire to volunteer by editing the "Activities & Interests" section of your Alumni Directory Profile. As a volunteer you can:

  • Serve on your local Oberlin Club steering committee.
  • Recruit new students for Oberlin
  • Host an event at your home.
  • Host an event at my office/other location.
  • Offer short-term housing to current students (see Housing Guidelines for Alumni) - The greatest need for housing is during Winter Term when many students would like to accept unpaid internships in locations other than their hometown.

Help others- and yourself- through the Office of Career Services
Do you have practical experience in a particular field?  Or perhaps you'd just like to share a few interview tips with a current student?  You can provide advice through informational interviews in person, via telephone, or e-mail, or even provide leads about internships, summer, and full-time employment opportunities.  You may also wish to encourage your employer to recruit at Oberlin; please let us know where you work, so you can be added to our database of potential resources for students and alumni.  Contact Career Services at (440) 775-8140 or dcareer@oberlin.edu.

Through the Office of Career Services, you can:

  • Offer a winter term internship
  • Post a job
  • Be a Career Mentor - One of the most popular ways to assist students is to serve as a career mentor. Oberlin alumni career mentors are willing to talk to current students and other alumni about their career field, to share advice and information, and to help facilitate networking. While all alumni in the online directory are accessible to students, many students are hesitant to contact someone they don’t know for career advice without some indication that the person is open to being contacted. Consequently, students look for alumni career mentors first.

You can easily indicate your willingness to be a career mentor by editing the "Professional" section of your Alumni Directory Profile. To assist you in being a career mentor to students, check out our Tips for Career Mentors.

You can also help yourself by joining one or more Oberlin Career Networks, which allow you to network with other Obies in fields of interest to you. You can join these networks by editing the "Professional" section of your Alumni Directory Profile.

Take an active role in the future of Oberlin by helping the Admissions Office
As an alumna/us of Oberlin College, you are also a lifetime ambassador.  Share your knowledge and experience with potential Oberlin students and tell the Admissions Office about them as well.  You may also volunteer to talk with prospective students and their parents during college fairs and interview days at high schools in your city.  Sometimes even something as simple as wearing your Oberlin sweatshirt can lead to informal conversations with future Oberlinians.  For further details on how you can help, you may contact the  Arts and Science Admissions Office at (800) 622-6243, or the Conservatory Admissions Office at (440) 775-8413;  you may also e-mail at arn@oberlin.edu or conservatory.admissions@oberlin.edu
