Executive Board Committees

There are eight committees answerable to and appointed by the Executive Board. These are the Admissions Advisory, Awards, Career Services Advisory, Communications, Conservatory, Development, Nominations, and Trustee Search Committees.  For all groups except the Communications and Conservatory Committees, current membership on the Alumni Council is usually required for appointment to a committee. Members serve staggered three-year terms and serve as members of the Alumni Council for the duration of their committee terms.  Committee chairs are usually members of the Executive Board. The Executive Director of the Alumni Association or designee is an ex-officio member of all committees.

The Admissions Advisory Committee provides guidance and support to the College Office of Admissions on the admissions process and facilitates the relationship between the Office of Admissions and the Alumni Association.  The committee usually meets during Alumni Council weekend and one other weekend in the spring. The Awards Committee recommends to the Executive Board the recipients of the Alumni Medal, Distinguished Achievement, Distinguished Service, Alumni Appreciation Award, Outstanding Young Alumni Award, Volunteers of the Year awards, and any other awards approved by the Alumni Association.  The committee usually meets during Alumni Council weekend, and one other weekend in the spring. The Career Services Advisory Committee provides guidance and support to the College Office of Career Services in its efforts to increase interactions between students and alumni for career-related issues and to facilitate the relationship between the Office of Career Services and the Alumni Association.  The committee usually meets during Alumni Council weekend and one other weekend in the spring. The Communications Committee advises in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the media, printed or electronic, through which the Association and the College communicate with alumni. Members are chosen by virtue of their expertise in journalism, publishing, and graphics/web.  The committee usually meets during Alumni Council weekend and one other weekend in the spring. The Conservatory Committee, composed of Conservatory alumni, supports the educational mission of the Conservatory of Music and enhances the relationship of the Conservatory with its alumni.  Members are chosen by virtue of their music expertise.  The committee usually meets during Alumni Council weekend and one other weekend in the spring. The Development Committee is an advisory committee to the Oberlin Fund in their efforts to raise donor participation among alumni. Members are current or former Class Agents and/or individuals who have professional experience in fundraising or finance. The committee usually meets during Alumni Council weekend and one other weekend in the spring.

The Nominations Committee prepares slates of nominees to fill vacancies on committees and candidates to stand for election to the Executive Board. It also assumes any additional responsibilities as determined by the Executive Board.  The committee usually meets during Alumni Council weekend and one other weekend in the spring. The Trustee Search Committee identifies alumni to stand for a graduate-wide election conducted each fall to choose an alumni-elected Trustee who will serve a six-year term on the Board of Trustees.  The committee usually meets during Alumni Council weekend and one other weekend in December.
