Double Degree Program

The Oberlin community is known for academic and musical excellence. Oberlin College offers a unique opportunity to students who want to combine rigorous pre-professional music training with a broad liberal arts education. In as few as five years, double-degree students may complete work for the Bachelor of Music degree from the Conservatory of Music and the Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Double-degree students commit exceptional talent and intellectual passion. They often demonstrate a capacity for intensive focus in an academic discipline, which brings context and imagination to their music.

About 30 students enter the double-degree program each year, pursuing a major in both music and the liberal arts. Majors may be closely interrelated, such as voice and French or German, or quite unrelated—bassoon performance and neuroscience, for example.

Prospective double-degree candidates apply for admission to the College and Conservatory separately.
