The TSC is an all-in-one service center, mainly for students seeking help with
computer technology. It is located in room 134, adjacent to the Multi-Media facility. Here, a student can bring his or her computer for diagnostic
assistance, get help connecting to the wired and wireless networks,
receive computer configuration assistance, and ask general computing
questions. Also, a student can get help with printing, multimedia
equipment located within the Multi-Media facility, accounts, and the work he or she is
doing on the main Academic Commons computers. The TSC is staffed during hours most requested by students seeking assistance.
TSC Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday: 2 P.M. to midnight; Friday: 2-5 P.M., Saturday: closed, Sunday: 4 P.M. to midnight. During times when the TSC is not staffed, people should seek assistance by sending an e-mail message to cit@oberlin.edu.
There are 29 computers available for use in the open area: 20 Macintosh and 9 Windows computers. These are available in 7 groups of 3, 1 group of 6, and 2 three-quarter round booth-like collaborative areas. An additional three-quarter round booth has connections for personal, or loaner (available for checkout from the Circulation Desk), laptops.
There are three printers located near the restrooms. All print requests are processed through a Pharos Print Release Station. In order to release a print job, the user must swipe an OCID or guest printing card at the release station. Guest printing cards can be purchased at the VTS machine located on the wall to the left of the entrance to Azariah’s café. Each semester, students may print up to 300 pages for free; once the free print allowance is exhausted, students can add Obie$$ to their accounts at the VTS machine.
The Multi-Media area has four Macintosh computers and one Windows PC. All Macs are video-editing stations, equipped with iMovie and Final Cut Pro, and some with Final Cut Pro keyboards, as well. This area also includes a video viewing facility with a large screen display and comfortable seating.
There are three flat bed scanners for use with Macs and one for use with a Windows PC. One Mac also has a slide scanner.
Computers in this area can print to either a color printer or a multi-purpose printer capable of printing 11 x 17 sheets and transparencies.
This room features fourteen Macintosh computers with additional seating
space for eight laptops (provided as needed for classes from the Circulation Desk), and an instructor workstation equipped with a
Windows computer.
There is a white board and capacity for VHS and DVD display.
